A Con From a Radio Standpoint

Well One big Convention in NYC has came and gone and while we did not attend this year as either a press rep for our show or a fan we have been getting flooded with reports that our sources have told us about things that were seen and heard at the convention which was out of hand.
Ok let me back up those who do not know me, I do an internet radio Show which we have re-branded for the final time due to legal issues that came up. We have done internet radio for over 10 yrs and have a variety of Guests and listeners worldwide, we have also visited conventions with our group of 1. That’s Right when I go as Press, I apply for 1 press pass and go myself with a voice recorder for audio and camera for pictures and video (both of which I ask permission before Snapping Any Photo’s) and include voice permissions as well. Why am I telling you this? Well 3 yrs ago we had an incident with Press liasion at NYCC who did not like a review we gave and therefore has blacklisted us for past 3 yrs, each year denying us for things that have nothing to do with us whatsoever but was just an excuse to say no. (See Prior Posts on Subject I am not rehashing)

Now moving Forward to the Recent NYCC and our Sources who reported from there as well as sources we spoke to via the web on their individual problems. First off let me say years ago there were geeks and nerds, who to see a women was left speechless mostly at the women and if they were revealing clothes was fascinating – Yet they were respected to a degree. FlashForward now to 2012-2013 and this has evolved into Creeps popping out of the woodwork who objectify women now as sex objects because of what they wear and do not even care about the work it goes into to make the outfit, what inspired them and how they feel wearing it in public.

I noticed this last year at the Con when I saw many “Press reps” with video Camera’s who were mistreating female cosplayers and I even spoke out and in a few instances went to security. (Btw when I spoke of this on our show it was held against us as well). Now we go to the con for the panels and the fans and for one person it is rough so we rely on various other sources who willingly gather stories for us. (Also held against us), now when we went this year to apply as press we were conveniently turned down only after Saturday passes sold out (Biggest day of the Con) and ignored when we requested assistance as to why being told they do not make the press criteria public, other than you have to have over 10K viewers/listeners, have to have a blog, or some form of written coverage, cant be related to the con or press agents going hmmm we werent and we were broadcasting everywhere including from the outside of the con.
Last Year Naked News was at NYCC videotaping interviews with female cosplayers and some of the questions  led to sexual innuendo and it was a female reporter.

Apparently the Convention does not really care for its members only on the money they can make. We have had Celebrities on the show Like Debbie Rochon, Alexia Anastasio, Bill Plympton, Jeffery Combs, Chris Costello (Daughter of Lou Costello) and countless other guests. Those in media know when you book a guest for a date in advance it is confirmed by the publicist and only cancelled few days prior if some emergency happens and the guest needs to change tactics. So For a convention to sell tickets for 4 days, and 3 day packages or even single days and then announce guests coming and what days shows the lack of care for its fans. When we interviewed the press liaison 4 yrs ago about this we were told, we dont want to say a guest is coming until the day before the con because if they announce it earlier and they cancel fans will be upset and not buy a ticket. Proving they want the money and do not care for the fans.

If you ever went to any other con they release all guest info all throught the planning phase right up until the day of the con so the fans can plan accordingly.
As for the Panels Same Press liaison commented when asked why they cant clear a panel room after each panel before a con they stated it would be too time consuming and need more volunteers to do so they just leave everyone where they are. Example was last years Walking dead panel where I spoke to 25 people who came from LA just for the day of the panel and waited in line for 7 hours being first in line to get a seat to be told 1 hour after panel started that the vips were in as well as a full room sorry go home. (Fans First Right?)

Then Cosplay incidents Ran Rampant last year and was squashed by the con immediately. I rarely see any press on the vendor floor or talking to cosplayers and those that I did see were respectable and a slight few were not.

Why Am I Reporting on this? Well Im willing to bet they don’t allow me a press pass for next year because of this and posting what they did to me as press by keeping me out as press and as a fan. When I contacted Reedpop I got a No Comment from an unnamed source.

Will these cosplayers still get mistreated at the Con? More than likely yes, But do not be surprised if cosplayers get some type of guidelines on dress for next year and what to do if there is any mistreatment.

All I can say is until they address the situation and actually address it not where just 1 person decides what to do but a panel sits down and talks about what they need to do with security and cosplayers and press to resolve this.

Our Idea, SInce press has to Register every year (yes there is a Strict process to register as press) Add the question on if they plan on filming or photographing cosplayers Yes or No Do not list a maybe, this way if they say yes its on their registration and if they have a complaint about them they can take that registration and stamp it invalid for the following year and tack a note as to why. So it is Recorded, because slapping them on the hand throwing them out of the con after 2 days doesnt prevent them from returning the following year or other damage they might have caused.

Now to toot my own horn our website which is finally up http://atwistedmyth.com

Has all sorts of info including past cons, our mission statement and reviews of all other past cons, its a good read.

With that I am CrazyNick
Internet Radio, Tv Cam Host, Blogger

Also for the record when I go to the Cons I go as Press and Not in costume, I bring me, my camera, my voice recorder, business cards. When I go as a Fan thats when I dress up as a cosplayer or normal attire.

What do you think of this story? Whats your Reviews good and bad of the Con? Remember I am sure the Con will be reading this post…

Biased Convention Bust

Well for the First time since New York Comic-con launched in NYC we will be missing the convention. As both A Fan and a Member of the Press this is sad. Now before reading further you should Note I am not bashing anyone this is my normal language so I hope it is not held against me, like last year when I questioned not allowing me a press pass for 10 stupid reasons that had nothing to do with humanity, if you search you can actually find it.

This year I applied for my Press badge early, For years I have attended, Alone for the Con trying to cover everything as I was told I was not allowed more than 1 person in press for my show. I do internet radio as most of you know and Do alot of Coverage both live and recorded, audio , video and photographs with the celebrities and Fans of NYCC. But due to the face we do not have over 10k listeners worldwide, or an actual tv news camera we have been denied for a second year, even being told we weren’t allowed back after complaining about being denied last year for a list of reasons that a 10 yr old made up and had nothing to do remotely with humanity or my show and proved they had no reason to deny me.

I applied early as I said, and the DAY after Saturday tickets sold out I was sent the email Denying me a press badge but I could buy a Fan Only badge for thursday and sunday if I wish.  To me it seems they purposely waited to deny me a pass after the original date I was going was sold out. Of course they say once denied you can not appeal however again I tried to reach the people in charge and All that happened was my emails went to the recycle bin as they refused to even reply or tell me why I was denied.

Also the next day after they closed all press registration, they then announce Panels, Guests coming and I said this last year and they held it against me, they refuse to say who is coming and what days so they can sell 3 and 4 day passes fast rather than 1 day passes so they don’t release Guest info. Almost All Conventions Have Guest’s Booked a min of 30 days in advance and all guests unless emergency pops up knows if they are coming.

I have never been to SDCC yet I have been invited there every year. Go Figure…

3 yrs ago when I was at NYCC as press and stood in line for 2 hours on press line for admittance I saw many press that were 2-5 people for 1 press outlet most internet based, some film production companies, 2 tv crews and we spoke to many fans who had their own problems with the con. All this was held against us, we even had a few celebs we knew personally who were at the con who were annoyed with how we were treated as press.

What do you think?

Convention Prep: NYCC

So we would like to hear from our listeners and readers and take your idea’s and suggestions and see what you would like us to cover at this Years NYCC. As always we cover the fans of Cosplay and get unique interview from the fans and we bring you photo’s Usually Live from the Convention Floor and Short Little Broadcasts Live.
This year we want to follow that tradition but Speak more to the fans, We try to cover every panel but review it and not give too much away. Also following tradition we try to bring you very short quotes from the guests as allowed by their publicists without taking any time away from their appearance.

Now is your time to speak, Tell us some things you want to hear and see at this years NYCC and we will do our very best to bring it to you *LIVE* or prerecorded. We have been successfully doing this for the past 5 yrs and want to bring you the listeners and fans more of what you want…

You’ve Seen Insanity, Now Listen to it Live….

Calling For Convention Boycott for Cosplayer’s Right’s

Most of you know me or know of Me and know how we are involved as much as possible in the convention circuit by either going, reporting on or getting reviews from people. So When Two Good friends Scott & Pixie Spoke about there experience at AnimeNext this past weekend – I was OUTRAGED.

Everyone has heard about how there’s alot of creep’s taken photo’s of cosplayer’s for uses other than press related or personal use. I am of course talking about 2 Image Solutions who felt it was fine to take pictures of cosplayer’s and then put them on Body Pillows and Sell them making money off the cosplayers image. Now first off I have a problem with the Creepy Factor of this, The People who will be doing god know’s what to some of those pillow’s and the fact they are making money from these item’s and not Paying anything to the people whose image they are using.

I believe in USA that is illegal. There was nothing signed by the cosplayer and even tho the photographer has some rights having taken the photo but the fact he is making money off it is wrong.

We value Cosplayer’s and like to say how sorry we are that this has happened. Lately there has been more and more issue’s arising at convention’s with cosplayer’s being mistreated. This is a new breed of photographer and we are saddened by what is happening…below is link to the article:

NYCC 2012 Review

All is Quiet, The Costumes are put away (for some), The Celebrities back to their private lives and the Fan’s Dispersed….

Im talking about NYCC Oct 13, 2012 as we Paid for our membership today after erroneously being Denied press access by the convention for no reason (that’s another story soon to be on Public News so we can’t discuss it yet..YET)
But I digress and this is about my 1 Day Experience at NYCC Jacob Javits Center and its a No holds barred Review with comments from myself as well as Overheard from a few hundred people…

We arrived at 8:30Am at Jacob Javits, Entered the green Doors and were put down in the basement warehouse for the Queue where we waited from 8:30am to 9:45am and then they allowed us up into the show floor which we reached at 10am. Now I myself understand about how new york has Union Rules but for the life Of me And 30 others we can’t understand why they can not open the show floor say 1 hour earlier, say 9am and then have their panels at 10am, this would give vendor’s and extra hour of sales, it would also make the fans happier cause now they can shop and then hit all their panels. It seemed to be alot of what people were talking about in the Queue and on the selling floor. We even spoke to 8 vendors and 2 artists from Artist alley who were all for it.

Time for First Panel of day : Lost Girl Which was scheduled 10:45-12:00 I believe but werent let in until 11am same time as the Guests but it was a fantastic Panel with Zoe, Rick and of Course the awesome Ksenia Solo. I left when they announced they were cutting the panel short and went to buy the Season 1 Dvd and Autograph ticket.
Then Off to buy a $70 ticket for Autograph and Photo of the Amazing G4 Star and Playmate Sara Underwood, Ran to Another Panel which was closed after 30 mins of starting (something New?) Back up to show Floor To wait online for Sara and were Pleased at how great she was. I felt a little bad for her publicist Jared tho as Javits Security Had started bugging him to either disperse the crowd in Aisle or else..(my words). In years past it was Javits security Job to keep aisle clear so people can walk and not stop in middle of aisle but, guess they did not have anymore than 3 security members working the con. Then Ran to Get a Wrist Band for Jessica Chobot, Ran to Cosplay Contest we ran and only 2 people Showed up…, Visited the “I Never Rest” Friend of ours Alexia Anastasio and Mina, Bill Plympton, Kevin Sean Michaels and then back to the Lost girl line to hang around for the autographs. For those who do not know it is a 2 hour wait online for autographs…I felt bad for the cast because they were late due to security again being MIA and squeezed into a tiny booth to sign for their fans…I wonder if Ksenia Bought any shoes and what video Game Zoe was thinking of playing or if Rick was contemplating a new song…But anyway after Lost girl I Ran to Jessica Chobot Line and saw how long it was so went to dinner downstairs in food court for a Hour. Came back Line didn’t budge and was second to last one. Once getting to Jessica She was such a sweetheart chatting and posing with me for a photo and autograph (only seems G4 stars do that)…Then I decided to walk around a bit and talk to people of their thoughts and take pictures…also we noticed the only press around were tv camera crews. Now we will be posting ours shortly but first we want to Show off one of our Special Correspondent’s of NYCC 2012 Jessica Fisher and here is her link to her photo’s with her permission…

Once Upon A Time Season 2 Premiere

SPOILER WARNING : This is from the East Coast Season 2 Premiere of Once Upon a Time with Some Spoilers;

I must say waiting For months for this Premiere was torture and it was finally paid off this evening. First off to catch you up on what happened in Season 1, they had a 1 hour special beforehand that gave you everything from episode 1 until the finale. It was worth the catch up but what does that say about the hour long show that was over 26 episodes summarized in 1 hour?

Onto tonight’s Premiere, the introduction of magic was interesting as it appears Emma is the only one who can push the magic to work. The notion of the fairytale land being gone might be a trick of Rumplestilskin’s or Regina’s but now it makes you wonder if a corner of the kingdom was spared, then why and why wouldn’t the people of storybrook be returned to that spot?

Also what about the introduction of wraith’s, Mulan, and Aurora? I must say it is exciting or did anyone else notice the 1 hour season premiere was more like 30 minutes with all those damn commercial’s?? When did that become more important on TV but that’s another story for another day…I want to hear everyone’s comments on this Episode and Show in General. Let’s see how many people really like it??

Repost: NYCC Review Oct 15-16 2011

Posted  on Sunday, October 16, 2011

Well We went and covered NY ComicCon Oct 14-15 and Let me tell you what a fun filled exciting day it was. I can not stress enough that this is a Convention in NY that is not only here to stay but Also One Fans Will Love. Nobody should Miss this at all. We saw a variety of panels that were thrilling and exciting and saw some great Stars and Celebrities alike, Including Eliza Dusku (Go Celtics!) Who Signed an autograph for me, Lloyd Kaufman the Genius behind Troma also was present signing Autographs, Blair Herter From G4 Tv was there signing and happy to see His fans and G4 Fans and also Showed that the East Coast isnt forgotten by the West. We also Received great artwork from Chris Burnham over at DC Comics. But we also Ran around like a nut because we couldnt bring our cameraman and other reporter along, so it was a bit stressful.
We were treated to A preview of Once upon a Time coming Oct 23rd which I suggest everyone should watch. Also Coming Nov 11, 2011 is premiere of Green Lantern animated Series which every fan will want to see, I wont tell you what happens but Don’t Miss it. Then After waiting online for almost 4 hours and missing Ghost Rider 2 and Walking Dead we made it into The Avengers. OMG what an exciting Panel that was with 4 castmembers present and G4tv’s Own Chris Hardwick (from the Nerdist Podcast) Moderating. Totally Fun, Exciting and makes you WANT to see The Avengers Now.
All in All Comic-con is a must for any pop culture Fan, Did I mention Batman:Arkham City Panel? Get that Game even if your not a gamer you’ll love it.
My only problems where behind the Curtain so to speak. I spoke with 500 angry upset Fans at 3:30pm-6:30 who like myself were stuck waiting on one line for IGN Theater with no communication as to what was going on. Some fans who came to See Ghost rider 2 or walking dead or avengers were all mixed on same like so many missed out on them due to lack of communication and putting everyone into a cattle pit. One Young lady drove 3 hrs from albany,ny to come to the convention to spend her entire day sitting online for a panel (walking dead) that she wanted to see and missed it only to leave and start heading back to albany, claiming she won’t be back. People If you have suggestions or constructive criticism write to the Con and tell them nicely, maybe they can fix these issues. I know 400 people who were ready to riot due to VIP’s Getting to bypass the line soon as they entered at 5pm over those waiting since 2pm.But watch for our full review on This next weeks Show. No negativity just an honest Fan’s review. We Will be back next year..Visit our Facebook.com/mysteryradio for the photo’s and find if your one of em. If so Contact us
